The stage is set
Having designed the branding for the BBC Proms 2012, Premm were pleased to attend the launch at the Royal College of Music last night. With much anticipation, Roger Wright (Controller, BBC Radio 3 and Director, BBC Proms) introduced the full season of 92 concerts running from Friday 13 July through to the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 8 September. As accessible as ever, the BBC Proms 2012 features music composed by the likes of Wagner through to a new commission by Wallace [of Wallace and Gromit fame] – surely a feast of music with something for everyone. To view the season in full, visit bbc.co.uk/proms. Premm have worked with the BBC Proms on its branding and marketing materials since 2001.

Pick Me Up 2012
Having been unable to make it to Pick Me Up with the guys for 2 years running, I was determined to get there this year when I got wind it was back! At the Somerset House Embankment Galleries, it was a mixture of lovely design/illustration work and work that looked like my sketchbook in my first year at university. Not only was it a showcase of talented designers and illustrators, but you could come away with something too – which I very nearly did, but my willpower sustained me. There was some very impressive hand drawn typography, a swirl of intricate pen lines by Yuko Michishita and lovely hand rendered illustration by David Sparshott in the Selected Artists area. Peep Show were artists in residence hosting workshops, and Print Club London set up a screenprinting area inviting people to take part in the process and creating a silk screen print. Definitely worth the visit, inspired me lots!

Love music: help musicians
Following the success of the supporters campaign designed by Premm, The Musicians Benevolent Fund approached us to design the look and feel for their Gold and Platinum Partners initiative. The MBF have been helping musicians through times of hardship for more than 90 years. If you love music, you can help the MBF to give musicians in crisis the immediate support they need. Life as a musician is tough and there is no safety net when a musician becomes ill or has an accident, experiences an injury or succumbs to the stresses of the profession with either performance anxiety or emotional breakdown. Celebrating Success with the Prince’s Trust
It was an absolute privilege for myself and Martin to be present at yesterday’s The Prince’s Trust and L’Oreal Paris Celebrate Success Awards at the Odeon, Leicester Square. The Awards recognise young people’s success in education, skills development, employment, enterprise and in the community. In the presence of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, hosted by Ant & Dec and with many of the charity’s celebrity ambassadors in attendance this event was joyful, inspiring and humbling in equal measure. On with the show
International Confex 2012 is currently on at ExCel London, with branding by Premm. Following a successful pitch in June 2011, we went on to produce a new logo and creative brand visual for this prestigious gathering of event-related organisations. Our varied remit ranged from direct influence on the look and feel of the website, production of event collateral, press advertising and HTML email templates, to the provision of our artwork files to enable UBM Live to apply the branding throughout the event space itself. International Confex will run between 6 and 8 March, find out more at international-confex.com

An E-motional Evening
I was lucky enough to attend the E-motional Type lecture at the British Library last night, the final event of their Spring Festival. It was a rare opportunity to hear from FUSE legends Neville Brody and Jon Wozencroft, along with Adrian Shaughnessy, Jonathan Barnbrook and Teal Triggs. Each speaker was given ten minutes (ish) to make their presentation on the role of type and visual language. I thought the format was a great success, with a wide variety of topics covered; from the experimental work of Brody & Wozencroft (celebrated in their special boxed set of FUSE 1-20), to the thought-provoking projects of Barnbrook, the passionate feminism of Triggs and the quick-witted commentary of Shaughnessy. Just my ‘type’ of evening!

Re-planting PR Landscapes
We’ve just finished designing a new identity for PR Landscapes, a garden, landscaping and grounds maintenance team based in Chessington, Surrey. The identity consists of a logotype and monogram combining the letters ‘P’ and ‘R’, the initials of company owner, Paul Reisinger. The clean and simple graphic elements and restrained colour palette reflect the team’s careful and considered approach to work ranging from lawns, tree surgery and hedges to ponds, drives and wooden structures. The identity has been applied to stationery and vehicles so far, and will be rolled out across print, sweatshirts and the team’s website in the near future.

Bring me sunshine…
The Designs of the Year 2012 show is now on at the Design Museum, with a huge variety of work on display from a wide range of design disciplines. I will definitely making a trip down to the museum to check it out, not least to get a peek at a reject slab from Gordon Young and Why Not Associates’ Comedy Carpet installation. I have been a fan of this piece since first coming across it in last October’s issue of Creative Review and have recently got hold of a copy of the companion guide book (pictured) – I think it is a great marriage of typographic design and engineering ingenuity. So until I can come up with a reason to go to Blackpool, the exhibition is going to be the closest I can get! Find out more at comedycarpet.com

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Premm recently won a credentials pitch to design the marketing image for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the 2012 flagship education project for the Globe Theatre. Since 2007, Globe Education, with the generous support of Deutsche Bank, have been creating theatre for young people. In that time, over 60,000 have received free tickets for a performance at Shakespeare’s Globe created especially for them. The identity will be applied to posters, advertising, programmes and to branding of the Globe theatre Itself. For more information visit www.playingshakespeare.org.

On the buses
Marie Stopes Sierra Leone (MSSL) has been providing high quality reproductive/sexual health services to Sierra Leoneans for 25 years. These bus side adverts are intended to encourage sexually active women and their partners to visit the MSSL outreach centers for contraception, advice and other services. The bus adverts project is one of a number of recent pieces of work that Premm have produced for Marie Stopes International (MSI), including a corporate folder, 2012 desk calendar and emergency toolkit pdf brochure.
