Matthew Barley – Around Britten

Brief

To design the branding for a year-long UK tour by Matthew Barley in celebration of composer Benjamin Britten’s centenary.

Solution

We wanted to communicate that this would be ‘a recital experience like no other’ – Matthew had a vision to combine his performances with digital animations and projected graphics. Working with Albion Media we moved away from traditional classical music publicity design, using a reduced colour palette and strong photography. Plotting a map of the tour created a graphic that roughly described the shape of Britain. This related well to the tour title’s play on words – Around Britten – and established a style for other illustrations.
