Historic Royal Palaces is the charity that looks after six of the most important palaces in the UK – known the world over – including the Tower of London. The marketing team were looking to create a new family activity called the ‘Great Garden Game’ for their family visitors with children aged 5-14. We were tasked with producing the main trail guide, and we wanted the guide to be a fun element of the experience itself. We developed a large interactive fold-out map, with hidden perforated doors to open at different stages. The map was held inside an accompanying leaflet which used a simple die cut to create a ‘sealed’ mission envelope. We brought on board Andy Council to illustrate the map, working closely with him to develop each element. The original illustrations added a richness to the design which matched the richness of the palaces themselves.
