During the branding process, we suggested that the new logo and typography could be combined with circular images on record covers with a view to creating a recognisable look for the label’s releases. We’re happy to report that the St John’s Cambridge team accepted the proposal and enlisted our help to produce artwork for ten record covers over the last four years, firmly establishing the new style.
The circular approach was inspired by recording formats (vinyl, CD etc) and the shape of the Bridge of Sighs, an iconic crossing over the River Cam at the College which is depicted in the new Choir and label logos we created.
The consistent cover layout could have been viewed as restrictive, but the label team has risen to the challenge, successfully conceiving subject matter for each recording to work in this format, resulting in an increasingly iconic series. Long may it continue!
