Sophie went back up to her old university this week to run the second half of her hand lettering workshop, Show me a sign, with the second year Lincoln Graphic Design students. She started off by speaking about the history of signage, sharing examples of hand lettering that inspire her and showing some of her own work. Braai – The act of cooking meat over fire

Over the past few months Sophie has been working on an illustrative hand lettering project for a small pop-up food company called ‘Braaicycle‘. They provide South African BBQ food at weddings, private events, markets, intimate dos – really anywhere a bicycle with a barbecue can go! The process started back in October when the owner approached Sophie about creating some designs for the bike after a recommendation from a friend. Last week Sophie visited her old university, the University of Lincoln, to carry out a talk and workshop on hand lettering with the second year, BA (Hons) Graphic Design students. After a quick introduction, and brief history of hand lettering, she spoke about how designers are using hand lettering in current practice and how she uses it in her own work.
