Pick Me Up 2016, Kitching & Friends!

Friday 29 April 2016

It is very rare we get the chance to go out as a whole bunch of us from Premm, so when Pick Me Up opened its doors at Somerset House for 2016 we were all very much up for it! I mean who doesn’t love seeing what the cultural arts have to offer each year, especially when some bring such a smile to your face like these Little ‘Floam Buddy’s’ did to Jess’. (Pictured: Floam Buddy TRIO, by Julian Glander) We all had our favourite pieces, Sophie was particularly taken with these beautiful Pastel...

Pick Me Up 2015

Thursday 30 April 2015

Pick Me Up is the UK’s first annual contemporary graphic art fair, showcasing the best new talent and also carrying out a multitude of events and workshops ranging from traditional screen-printing and animation, to risograph printing and paper craft. This year it felt particularly close to home for us, as both Hattie Newman, and the piece we worked on with her, featured in the event. She had a lovely display downstairs featuring photographs of her work as well as 3D models and sketchbooks she had...

Under the covers

Monday 20 April 2015

Recently Kevin and Sophie attended the Secret 7″ exhibition followed by a talk hosted in conjunction with the event entitled ‘For the love of music videos’. Secret 7″ take 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians and press each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They also invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style for every 7”. 700 sleeves are exhibited and then sold for £50 apiece to raise funds for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins....

Our visit to Pick Me Up 2014

Friday 02 May 2014

Last night saw a trio from Premm visit the 2014 Pick Me Up exhibition at Somerset House. Now in its fifth year, it was the usual wide variety of artwork on display, from the curated Pick Me Up Selects artists through to a number of creative collectives. Alongside the illustration and graphics, one unexpected highlight was the light-hearted and occasionally surreal poetry of Matthew Hodson (aka Matthew The Horse) that we stumbled across towards the end of our visit. The show finishes on Monday, so...

Pick Me Up 2012

Monday 02 April 2012

Having been unable to make it to Pick Me Up with the guys for 2 years running, I was determined to get there this year when I got wind it was back! At the Somerset House Embankment Galleries, it was a mixture of lovely design/illustration work and work that looked like my sketchbook in my first year at university. Not only was it a showcase of talented designers and illustrators, but you could come away with something too – which I very nearly did, but my willpower sustained me. There was some...

Pick Me Up Again

Tuesday 29 March 2011

Sunday was the last day of this year’s Pick Me Up exhibition at Somerset House. I really enjoyed my visit, with some familiar faces from 2010 alongside a number of new exhibitors. Personal highlights from the Pick Me Up Selects artists included the gorgeous letterpress of Jessica Hische, the quirky cartoons of Tom Gauld and the strangely beautiful information graphics of Stefanie Posavec.

Pick Me Up 2011

Wednesday 26 January 2011

Delighted to have received advance notice from Somerset House of the next Pick Me Up graphic art fair. We really enjoyed the event last year especially Rob Ryan’s open studio. This year, the studio space will be occupied by the very talented Anthony Burrill, which reminded me of his brilliant charity project for the Gulf of Mexico disaster – ‘Oil & Water Do Not Mix’ (below). More details on the March event here.
